So I’ve been super quiet (doing a PhD will do that to you!). So I just wanted to wish everyone well for 2022 – however you do or do not celebrate midnight ticking over tonight!
2020 was nothing short of hell. I was recovering from a physical and emotional breakdown caused by a toxic workplace and then lockdowns and pandemics.
This year has been nearly as challenging but somehow I managed to complete the first year of a PhD in Political Science on a topic I am most passionate about.
So I want to focus on my years highlights for me in 2021 instead of dwelling on it’s shitness.
- I published my first piece in The Conversation as an academic.
- I was confirmed as a PhD candidate in early December and I got the delight of doing part of my PhD seminar (30 seconds) as one of my political satire characters.
- I conquered my fears on stage at Midsumma Festival and did something my 18 year old self could only have dreamed of – my own funny but shoddy piano composition and performance live on stage.
- My family moved from Far North Queensland to literally the same apartment building as me. After 9 years apart from my adult son, and only seeing him for 11 days in that whole time, this has ended this year on a high.
So big loves to you all. May 2022 treat you well.
